Two Ingredient Homemade Corn Tortillas
Homemade tortillas can be made creating zero-waste or very low waste; if you count the paper bag the masa comes in. Masa is corn flour that usually comes in a paper bag. To make tortillas, all you need is masa and warm water.

Before we get into the recipe I'd like to mention a very small set back I encountered. As you'll see, once you've made the dough and arranged it into small one ounce balls, they require being pressed flat. So here is where I encountered my dilemma; I don't own a tortilla press, that's one. When the tortillas are pressed, if they are pressed without two pieces of something flexible like cling wrap they will stick to the item they are pressed against and break if you try to remove it; that's two.

Cling wrap is not an eco-friendly product at all. It is made from a flexible plastic called polyvinyl chloride or PVC. Not only is it not recyclable but it also releases dioxin, a super harmful gas during production, use and disposal. Dioxin is a carcinogen and hormone disruptor that damages the immune system and causes reproductive and developmental problems in humans.
How did I solve these setbacks? I used two plates, two pieces of aluminum foil and my body weight. I placed the dough ball between the foil pieces and press it between the plates, using the plates as a press and using my body weight to achieve a flat tortilla. Aluminum foil is reusable and recyclable, making it a better alternative than plastic wrap.
Without further ado an Easy Homemade Tortilla Recipe:
- 2 Cups Corn Flour/Masa
- 1.5 - 2 Cups Warm Water
Makes about 10 tortillas

Instructions:
* Place 2 cups of flour in a mixing bowl with 1.5 cups of water and combine until it becomes a soft dough about 2-5 minutes. If it is too dry add a tablespoon of water at a time.
* Divide the dough into one ounce dough balls and place them under a clean damp towel to keep the dough from drying out.

* If you have a tortilla press, us that. However if you do not have a tortilla press, line two plates with aluminum foil. Place a ball between the two pieces of foil and press it flat in between the two plates until they are about 5 inches in diameter.
* Heat a skillet or griddle at medium-high heat and warm the tortillas on each side flipping them every 30 seconds, about 3 times until they are cooked .

Bon Appetit! That was it. Easy and delicious homemade tortillas will change your life!
Once done, if you have any leftovers you can put them in a container in the refrigerator and warm them up again later.
